THE FAROESE FOLK HIGH SCHOOL
The Fareose Folk High School is a creative folk high school with emphasis on visual and performing arts, Faroese culture and society.
The main language of tuition is Faroese, but international students are welcome, and will be offered language classes as well as help with translation.
The school offers a range of courses to all, who want space to dream and grow through the arts. We encourage active citizenship with respect for the environment and community.
In the spring season the school offers short courses, mostly over a weekend. In the autumn and winter, there is a six month course for live-in, full time students. The autumn course begins in September and ends in February.
The Faroese Folk High School is a self governing school, recognized by the Faroese Ministry of Foreign affairs, Culture and Education. It is part of the Nordic movement of Folk High Schools.
THE AUTUMN COURSE
In the autumn course, you focus on one of two main subject areas, visual arts or performing arts. During the first month, students follow all subjects, trying out theatre, dance, storytelling, drawing, linoleum, carpentry, creative writing and painting. Once you have been introduced to the fields of study, you choose which of branch you want to focus on – but you will still get some lessons in the field which is not your main focus as well. Every Wednesday we leave the school and venture out into nature and the community around us.
During the course, there will be theme weeks with guest teachers. In the past years, these have comprised film, creative writing, the student paper Tjaldur, photo, glass and ceramics. The teachers are practicing professionals in their field.
In addition, the programme includes excursions to other parts of the country, to Suðuroy, Nólsoy, the Northers Islands and more.
The tuition fee for the Autumn course is 3950 DKK/month. The tuition fee includes room and board, learning and materials. You only need pocket money.
Acquiring a student visa, if needed, is the responsibility of the applicant.
